CADFEM ANSYS extension for computation of hydrodynamic bearings
The structural behaviour of shafts with journal bearings depends to a high degree on the dynamic characteristics of the lubricant film in the bearings. An established method for the simulation of the lubricant film formation is elastohydrodynamics (EHD). With Tribo-X inside ANSYS journal bearings can be analysed quickly and easily within ANSYS Mechanical.
Using the new analysis system ‘Hydrodynamic Bearing’ in ANSYS Workbench, the physical domains of the hydrodynamics within the lubrication gap and the deformation of the structural surrounding are coupled by the help of the finite element analysis. Elastic deformation especially due to low rotational speed of the shaft, high loading and low structural stiffness can influence the resulting lubrication gap. By taking this into account, the identification of an optimal bearing design as well as the prevention of bearing damages are promoted.
